Rough day, today. I lost my best friend. For 13 years my kitty, George T. Wesley, has been a faithful pal.
He loved Wheel of Fortune. If I was home and didn't have the tv on at 6:30 he would let me know. Really! It wasn't so much that he enjoyed the action as it was the time to curl up on my lap for awhile.
When Tyler was still in grade school, George ruled! He would get him up in the mornings, wait for him to come home, and then would attempt to turn out his bedroom light when he thought Tyler should go to sleep.
He played 'bat and ball' with his boy, Tyler. Little plastic Easter eggs were his favorites. He would sit on the edge of the bed while Ty would pitch them at him. His paws were mighty bats! He even learned to 'run to first base' ... which was a spot under a bedroom lamp table. We figured that he got that from sitting in the tv room with 'Boy' while they watched a major league game together.
When God called my dad home, George would nightly sit at the top of the stair landing ... looking for Dad to walk through the front door. He knew that Grandpa Bill would get out the electric vibrator and give him a good massage. Any other cat would have run a hundred miles to get away. Not GTW! He relished it.
He ran for president in 2000. When George Bush was campaigning, the local humane society decided to run our George for office ... to raise funds for the new shelter. Little 'voting boxes' went up all over Pocatello, Idaho ... and people paid 1 cent per vote! George T. didn't get elected, but he did his part for a worthy cause.
He rode beside me in the Budget rental truck, all 1300 plus miles from Idaho to Tulsa. And he enjoyed every minute of the journey. George adapted to his new home very well ... didn't even get too excited when the tornado sirens blew. He slept right thru' most of the thunder storms that first spring.
I could write a book on George's 13 years with the family. But I will tuck the memories away in my mind, to recall them when I need a good friend to remember. There will never be another George T. Never.
